  • The Network Layer (Layer 3) is in charge of delivering entire packets from source to destination.
  • It provides 4 main protocols :
    • IP (Internet Protocol) : used for IP addressing
    • ICMP (Internet Control Messaging Protocol) : used by PING (Packet Interface Gopher)
    • ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) : resolves MAC addresses to IP addresses
    • RARP (Reverse Address Resolution Protocol) : resolves IP addresses to MAC addresses (used by DHCP)
