  • The Session Layer (Layer 5) starts, controls and terminates a connection creating a session or dialog between communicating systems.
  • The Presentation Layer (Layer 6) deals with how the information is presented like format (.jpg, .wav, .mpg, ...), encryption/decryption, compression/decompression, ...
    • Compression/Decompression : process of transmitting data in a reduced/expanded form
    • Encryption/Decryption : process by which plain/cypher data is converted into cypher(coded)/plain data
