Oracle server = Oracle instance + Oracle database

Oracle instance = memory structures + background processes (logical architecture)

Oracle database = operating system files (data files) storing database information (physical architecture)

Other files = used to configure the instance, authenticate the users, recover the database in case of disk failure

User and server processes = primary processes involved for executing an SQL statement

Other processes = Advanced Queuing, Real Application Clusters, Shared Servers, Advanced Replication, ...
